Academic rigour.
Human understanding.

I'm a practicing university lecturer with a PhD and years of teaching experience in higher education. I know how to break complex ideas into clear, manageable steps — and how to spot when a child is struggling before they even realise it themselves.

More importantly, I'm a parent. I've sat at the kitchen table working through past papers. I've felt the anxiety of wanting to give my children every advantage. I bring that lived perspective to every session — not just academic knowledge, but real empathy for what families are going through.

PhD qualification — doctoral-level subject expertise
Active university lecturer — teaching is my profession, not a side hustle
"My own children went through the 11+ process. I know what it feels like from the parent's chair — the hope, the preparation, the outcome that doesn't always match expectations, and how your child's worth is so much more than one exam."

The goal isn't just to pass a test — it's to build the kind of genuine academic confidence that serves a child for the rest of their education. That takes something a drilling class simply can't provide.

— My teaching philosophy

Focused preparation.
No exam factories.

Every session is purposeful. I cover the four 11+ domains — English, Maths, Verbal Reasoning, Non-Verbal Reasoning — adapted to each child's specific gaps.

Questions I'd want answered if I were you

I'd rather be straight with you upfront than make promises I can't keep. The 11+ is a competitive exam — good tuition helps, but it isn't magic. Here's what I genuinely think.

Can you guarantee my child will pass?
No honest tutor can. Pass rates vary hugely by area and school. What I can guarantee is structured, high-quality preparation that gives your child the best realistic chance — and genuine academic confidence either way.
What if my child doesn't get into grammar school?
The skills we build — analytical thinking, verbal fluency, mathematical reasoning — are valuable everywhere. Many of my sessions focus on transferable academic ability, not just test tricks. Children who prepare well tend to thrive regardless of outcome.
Are you a qualified teacher?
I'm a university lecturer with a PhD — which means I have deep subject expertise and extensive teaching experience, though not a school QTS. Many of the most effective tutors don't hold QTS. What matters is understanding your subject and your students.
How much notice do you need?
I can usually begin within a week of your first enquiry. Given sessions run until July, the sooner we start the better — but even a focused 8-10 week programme makes a measurable difference.
